SUMMIT uses mirrors, light and the Manhattan skyline as one connected installation. Its reflective rooms make the visit highly photogenic, but they also mean clothing and footwear rules matter more than at a normal observatory.
The location beside Grand Central is exceptionally convenient in winter. You can arrive by subway with limited outdoor walking and combine the visit with Midtown attractions. Late afternoon provides changing light, while a night slot emphasises reflections and city illumination.
Wear trousers or shorts rather than a skirt because of mirrored floors, and avoid sharp heels. Bright sunlight can be intense inside the reflective rooms. Crowds can slow photography, so allow more time than you would for a simple viewpoint.
