Dates and what to expect
The official city tourism announcement identifies December 13 for a seven-block Open Streets celebration. Exact hours, block boundaries and the detailed programme should be checked with the Fifth Avenue Association; this is not a season-long traffic closure.
The regular holiday walk and the Open Streets event are different plans. You can enjoy storefront decorations on other days, while the special closure adds space for walking and announced entertainment. Individual retailers follow their own display dates.
Location, travel and admission
Plan a Midtown route linking Fifth Avenue, Rockefeller Center and the Saks facade at 611 Fifth Avenue. Use normal crossings on ordinary days and follow stewards during special closures. Check the actual event map before arranging a meeting point.
Viewing public decorations and walking through the public Open Streets area do not require a guided-tour ticket. Shopping, meals, skating and observation decks are separate paid choices. Saks’ 2026 light-show unveiling is November 23, later than the avenue’s announced decor start.
Visiting with children
Keep a short route and an indoor break with children. If the Rockefeller tree matters, remember its lighting ceremony is December 2. A November visit can have decorated storefronts without the full December tree-and-lights experience.
