Dates and what to expect
Rockefeller Center confirms the arrival and lighting dates on its own tree page. At our October 19 check it asks visitors to return for visiting hours and additional details. We therefore do not publish a final January removal date or fixed daily lighting hours.
Arrival is not the same as illumination: the tree can be in place while decorating continues. The lighting ceremony attracts very different crowds from an ordinary viewing evening, and a television broadcast is not a reservation for a plaza position.
Location, travel and admission
The tree stands at Rockefeller Plaza between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and 49th and 50th Streets. Combine the area with Radio City and Fifth Avenue; allow time for pedestrian controls rather than assuming you can cross the plaza in a straight line.
Ordinary viewing from public areas is free. The Rink, Top of the Rock and premium Christmas Tree experiences have their own prices and access conditions. A paid package is optional; check exactly which access it adds.
Visiting with children
With children, choose a shorter visit and a meeting place outside the densest part of the plaza. The Saks light show across Fifth Avenue can fit the same evening. Confirm both schedules separately, and keep dinner nearby rather than rushing across town.
